Ever since The Bagel Store blew up on Instagram last year I’ve been wondering how long would it take for other stores to catch on to this #colorfulcraze! Back in 2014 we took Hailey, Dylan and their best friend to Diner By the Sea in Long Beach for the dye milkshakes for one of their farewell dinners before sleepaway camp. Again one of those concepts that makes you want to slam your fist down and say “WHY DIDN’T I THINK OF THAT! IT’S GENIUS!” All it takes is for my kids to see something in rainbow or with a new twist and they are sold! 🌈🌈🌈
Well it looks like we don’t have to travel to Brooklyn anymore because 2 bagel stores right here in Long Island offer the tye dye bagel. From what I hear they don’t taste different, which is both a positive and negative. My kids actually didn’t like the flavored bagels from the Bagel Store. But I guess for some people the unique flavor is one of the draws. But I actually liked the taste. From their site “Made with a variety of flavors that some customers compare to cereal, each rainbow bagel ($3) is topped with Funfetti-style cream cheese or a cotton candy spread for an extra burst of sugar in the morning.” We sampled ours on Thanksgiving morning last year and then everyone ran to Instagram to upload their pictures. Actually my cousin Kaitlyn’s picture of our tray of the dye bagels was posted to their official instagram page! Groovy ✌🏽
The lines at the Bagel Store are looooong and they often run out of bagels. They only make a set amount of bagels per day because of the time consuming process. But now we don’t have to drive all the way there or have them shipped, because I just heard from a good friend of mine, let’s call her “Dr Swag” that Best Bagels on Middleneck Rd in Great Neck sell the tye dye bagels as well as Family Bagels of Plainview!!! I haven’t sampled them yet but now we will sprint over there this weekend!
Back to the Diner By the Sea…last week Newsday featured an article about the diner and how they unveiled their new TYE DYE PANCAKES to go with their wildly popular TYE DYE MILKSHAKES! So as far as I know, they are the first on the scene with rainbow pancakes. I’m surprised more restaurants haven’t tried to capitalize and jump on the rainbow/tye dye bandwagon sooner. They really should because I really feel like it would be a hit with the kids!
So there you have it Long Island, TYE dye bagels or as my tween Hailey would write #BAEgels, #pancakes and #milkshakes!!! Who’s making a trip to the South Shore this weekend? 🙋🏽
PS- Sandy at Sugar Rush NYC (@sugarrushnyc on insta) I think you need to get on that crazy the dye bandwagon and start offering the tye dye and rainbow oreos and chocolate treats…OH WAIT…you just made them for me for Hailey’s splatter paint 10th birthday party! ✅✅ Look out for Sandy’s oreos at Cool Mess! 🍫🍪👏🏽👍🏽
