Considering this was my 1st Easter in 36 years away from my parents, we had to make it a special one…Turns out the Easter Bunny travels to DC and the kids were thrilled to open the hotel room door 🚪to their fabulous Easter baskets. 🐰🐰🐰🐰🎁🎁🎁🎁
After rummaging through the baskets we got reeeeally lucky and got seated at the Easter Brunch at the Hamilton Hotel even though it was sold out. Thankfully we got in otherwise we wouldn’t have had Easter Bunny Pics…despite the ghetto bunny, the kids were happy.🐰👏🏽👍🏽
Then we hit the Newseum, which is a museum of news events. 📰📰
5 minutes in, and Shane, inappropriately swinging on the rope before I could grab him off, fell backwards and smacked his head on the Berlin Wall. LOL now…because who hits their head on the Berlin Wall? 🤕
I think it was more interesting for adults, the kids tolerated it for an hour or so, 🕛🕢🕝but I found some of the topics to be sensitive for little kids. Hailey, my anxious one, was getting stressed seeing some of the images: 911, Boston Bomber, Shoe Bomber etc…
I wavered back and forth about how much to explain and draw attention to and how much to let go over their heads. Kids only have their innocence once in their lives, I’m not sure how much I want to rush it, and panic them about the dangers outside their bubble. Especially since terrorism is a scary fact of life even for adults, it’s hard for kids to process.
Anyway after the Newseum we headed over to the Jefferson Memorial.
We were greeted by the most luscious and gorgeous cherry blossoms lining the tidal basin. 🌸 Everywhere you turned it was a good pic opp.
📸 Another very crowded Memorial, people allllll over littering your photos. But the trees were phenomenal! I feel so blessed that we had this rare opportunity to witness the cherry blossom festival and Easter on the same day!🌸🐰💐🌷
We ended our day with a trip to the White House…more like the White House black fencing. But what an awesome experience to be able to see this treasure up close in person! 🏯
It was such a special moment for our family and the cherry 🍒 on the cake was an appearance by the “first dogs” Sunny and Bo!
We had dinner at Old Ebbits Grill from the mid 1800s and topped off the night with a family ride on the stroller and a dip in the pool! 🏊🏽
