This was a big weekend for Seniors across America, because it was College Graduation Weekend! 🎓 My cousin Kaitlyn was graduating from Quinnipiac and so the whole Shap gang piled into the Sprinter 🚐 and headed to Connecticut to watch her flip her tassel and pop champagne! 👩🏻🎓🍾
We are so proud of Kaitlyn and everything she has accomplished in 4 years, her awesome GPA 🅰, 1 year away from finishing her Masters in Occupational Therapy, the wonderful friendships she’s made with the Belindas 👸🏻👭👭👭 and for keeping off the 60 pounds she lost right before her freshmen year.
Everyone who knows Kaitlyn would attest to the beautiful person she is inside and outside. She’s on her way to big things! Blah, blah, blah…
But the REAL highlight of the weekend and the moment that will go down in history, ⬇️📰 was when my 88 year old grandmother 👵🏼 tapped the keg and kicked off the graduation party festivities!🍻🎉🎓 This is what life is made of, where moments are made that will change your life forever. At first she was hesitant, but I knew deep down inside of that 80lb Cuban, was a crazy sorority girl raring to get out…All she needed was a little coaxing… “Pips please you have to do this. 🙏🏽This is the kind of video that we can show at your funeral and it will turn tears into laughter. Don’t you want us to remember you as the crazy lady who never says no to an adventure?” In her little Spanish accent she agreed with me “Yeeeees I guess sooo and I do like beer”. That’s all the prodding she needed. She didn’t even wait to be called up. She flung her jacket over her cane and parted the seas. This lady was made to perform and perform she did. 📷📸📹🎥👵🏼🍺🔄
Kaitlyn’s roommates flipped the granny upside down and by the grace of God her arthritis and weak arms became STONG LIKE OX 💪🏽as she chugged and chugged and held herself upside down.
The crowd went wild chanting and cheering her name! She flipped everyone the peace sign ✌🏽️and walked off to lick her lips👄💦…
In that moment I learned a lot about life. That you are never too old to do anything, that there’s no shame in her game, and that to Pips every day in life is worth living! 😍 She’s a true inspiration to all and I’m so proud that she’s our spitfire!
She goes by many names, Pips (pronounced Peeps), Ñaña, Urania, Pipitica, The Ball, and she loves any attention. She is known to command audiences everywhere she goes! #truestory She is the kind of lady that walks up to strangers and a few minutes into talking to them she’s already hugging and kissing them goodbye. 💋💋💋 Just this morning at the hotel breakfast we were cracking up when we noticed she had already starting her morning rounds…hugging the kitchen lady…You do you Pips. You do you. ❌⭕️❌⭕️
I interviewed her a few minutes after the “kegstand heard ’round Quinnipiac”🎙 to hear her perspective…
HER main point was “I’m happy when I please my family”❤️… Well that and “oh by the way I enjoyed the beer. It was cold and it was good and I didn’t want to let go of it”. But this selfless women will do anything for her family.
😘 We love her so much and are so blessed to have her beent able to still keep up with this INSANE family! In the words of the graduation girl “THAT’S MY FUCKIN GRANDMA!” 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
To see it all go down watch the mayhem here! #pipsbeLIT
