Oh Crap! πŸ˜«πŸ’© This is a topic I Didn’t Think to Discuss Yet With My Older Kids Yet…But I Guess I Should???πŸ˜±πŸ˜–πŸ˜³πŸ“–πŸ’»

My kids are 10,7,3 and 1 so I haven’t given this topic much thought. πŸ€” Actually I was in no rush to. Nor would I even know where to begin. This topic freaks me out. 😨😱😳 Here is a recent blog post I read on the topic by a good friend of mine, Tanya.

“Today’s topic however, I’m going to guess, NO ONE is comfortable discussing. Not even a formally trained sex education teacher. But, here we go. We must. It’s our job because kids are learning about it without our help and it’s not going well.

Ughhh. I get it. I don’t want to either but it’s the big elephant in the room. If you have a child 10 and up who uses the internet, you need to at least think about it. I’m breaking it down into two sections- young kids and teens. Personally, I think the teen piece is critical because pretty much everyone is overlooking this in terms of our teenagers’ healthy sexual development.”

So there it is folks. Internet porn. Admittedly, I am not always on top of Hailey’s phone, I do not do random spot checks. I know I know. I have to make it more a priority. I will. It’s on my list. βœ”οΈ

The blog post gives you suggestions on how to broach the topic, things to think about and other resources you can go to for more help. To read the very interest post inΒ full click here.

From Time Magazine their article says “Interest in sex and sexual imagery is completely normal, so the biggest thing for parents to remember is to approach the issue in a non-judgmental way. You should offer to answer any question, however embarrassing. You don’t want them to be ashamed of their curiosity, or to feel so guilty it interferes with developing a healthy sexual identity. However! Porn is often so unrealisticβ€”a literal β€œperversion” of real human interactionsβ€”that it can endanger kids’ ability to have a healthy relationship with their body and with sexual partners. Parents need to be the reality check.”

I never even thought about it until the topic came up at lunch. 😡 Even if you are not ready to have THE conversation now, it’s definitely a good reminder that it should be on your radar and it is a topic that will eventually come down your pipeline. Knowledge is power…So be ready for when the time comes…πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ’ͺ🏽
