After polling Facebook, the people had spoken and recommended we go to Harbes Apple Orchard for apple picking.🍎🍏👌🏾
Crazy enough we’ve never done this with our kids 🤔 and I didn’t want another fall🍁 to go by without giving it a try. I always thought September was the only month you could apple pick and I’m always still in summer mode. Since we had off from school for Rosh Hashanah we used 🔯 it as a good opportunity to do a fun family activity.
Before apple picking we wanted to have a nice lunch. Odellia from Takeoff Concierge suggested we make a pit stop in Mattituck on the cutesy LOVE LANE
We hit Love Lane Kitchen for lunch and walked around the very small town while we waited for our table to be ready.
There was a toy store and a chocolate/candy store and a few other little shops…🍭🍫
And of course you have to take a pic of your family under the Love Lane sign.
We arrived at the orchard and the fall festival was in full swing! Packed with 100s of people, live music and lots to do. 🎧
We headed straight to the orchard for fear that we were arriving late in the day and there would be no apples picked.
We passed a lot of empty orchard rows and headed straight for the back.
We arrived on the scene of an orchard row that was just opened and my oh my we’re there a LOT of apples! 🍎🍏🍎🍏🍎🍏🍎🍏🍎🍏🍎🍏
We got to work right away picking some big juicy reddish green ones, the were called Jonaprince.
The bags were on the smaller side. We paid a combo price for apple picking and corn maze and hay ride.
I think it was around $19 a person. Then we found another row of Green apples, and they were huge and SUPER sweet and delicious!
The trees were dwarf trees so they were small and no taller then 6 feet high to the top.
All of my kids had a very easy time reaching and picking! I can’t believe we’ve never done this before! What a shame!
Then when our bags were full we headed to the corn maze and had a fun time trying to get super lost. 🌽🌽🌽🔎🔎
The day turned out to be a warm sunny and hot day and there were beautiful views from the corn maze! 🌞🏞⛲️🎃.
We ended up exhausted and hot and decided to skip the long line for the hay ride 👎🏽👎🏽.
Of course now with all our bushels of apples we had to do something with them. I decided to awaken the inner Suzy Homemaker in me for once and bake with the children. We made 2 delicious pies.
I wwasn’t expecting them to be good but they were really delicious and here are the recipes, onefor apple Crisp and the other for apple pie.
I would definitely recommend Harbes to everyone it was about a little over an hour away from Nassau County and they had plenty of fun for the family!
