The Fiddles and Shaps decided to playΒ hooky for some Xmas time fun in the city and we were rewarded with a beautiful sunny 55 degree day!Β Ever since I was pregnant with Dylan 9 years ago and we went out it 1st time,I’ve been wanting to take my kids to the most insanely amazingly decorated Christmas restaurant, Rolf’s.
It just never worked out, or I couldn’t get a reservation. I tried calling several times this year and no one would answer, although their website said they were open. So when we came to the city last Monday I decided to just “show up”.Like a true Christmas Miracle the entire restaurant was packed and I mean paaaacked except there was one table of 8 available just sitting there.
I told the hostess WE WILL TAKE IT and I ran back to get the kids out of the Sprinter.
I was apprehensive because it was German food and you know how kids are. We ordered the kids the chicken schnitzel π³, and potato pancakes π―, mashed potatoes and French onion soup and I was shocked that they devoured the food!
Meanwhile the girls were in picturing taking heaven. The ceiling is COVERED with 1000s of ornaments and holly. It’s truly a sight for the eyes!
After we are friends recommended we head to Bryant Park for their Winter village and ice skating. βΈβΈ
We did a quick tour of all the shops, I would’ve love to walk around and browse but the kids were dragging me to the ice.
Anyway the thought of ice skating alone with 5 kids (3-4 who can’t skate) sounded so much more fun then shopping alone in peace and quiet so…OFF we went to the ice!!!! π³π³π³
I gotta tell you it was FUN!!! HARD…BUT FUN!!! Except for their strict no taking pictures on the ice policy, which I almost got escorted off the ice off, which is neither here nor there ππ
After my back couldn’t take it anymore we headed off the ice and looked for a dessert hut. Most of the kids settled on an amazing Crepe CafeΒ with a huge selection.
Hailey searched further and found a hut that makes a huge giant churro filled like a crepe. She picked whip cream and Nutella inside her Churro.π«
While the kids ate their desserts I slipped into The FACEBOOK hut and tried out the new Virtual Reality glasses that the company acquired called Oculus.
“Facebookβs mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected. Oculus is a team at Facebook thatβs building entirely new virtual reality products to allow people to experience anything, with anyone.”
We only had one day in the city and since I pulled the kids out of school the Shaps and the Fiddles had a lot of Xmas to pack in. But first a cute Nun pic…
Next stop was Macy’s! Another Xmas in the city bucket list item I’ve been wanting to check!
I guess we were lucky because typically or oftenly the line in Santaland on the 8th floor could reach up to 2.5 hours till you arrive at Santa. π πΌ
So I guess we should be thankful ours was only a half hour but we were busy looking at stuff the whole half hour so there was plenty of entertainment for the kids.
They enjoyed all the decorations and trains and trees in Santaland! ππ
Finally, we arrived at Santa and the kids were all very excited to tell Santa what they wanted for Xmas. Yep that’s right all the kids!
While I paid for our pics I had the Lucy’s take the 6 kids to the bathroom so I could relax in peace for 5 minutes. That’s the part when I sat on the floor and took my selfie with the Santa Express “smiling” π¬because I was alone and was sending it to Craig. πΈπ½
That was also the part when I heard the herd of children running back down the aisles shoutingπ’ and my skin started to crawl because my moment of solitude was over. πThat’s also the part where Skyler decided to greet me by sticking a spinning fan toy in my hair. π³And finally that’s the part where the fan got wrapped so tightly into my hair that it was wrapped to my root and took my mom a long 10 minutes to free my hair. ππ½
My hair is currently like 6 inches WTF was so hard about it! π‘π€ππ€We scooped up my pile of hair and moved on…
But no rest for the weary we had one final pit stop to make, that was of course Rockerfeller Center and THE Christmas Tree! πSo we sprinted ππ¨ over there where Craig was able to meet us in time to take a nice family picture in front of the tree! πΈ
We ended the night watching the most magnificent light show ππΆβοΈ accompanied by music on the facade of Saks.
The “winter palace” was beautiful and really a magical way to end our amazing Xmas day in the city with our fave Fiddles π
